  • The 1914/15 Star trio awarded to Alfred Cyril Beaumont, Wellington Infantry Battalion who was wounded on Gallipoli.

     

    Alfred Beaumont was born 26th February 1894 at Johnsonville, Wellington. Son of Alfred and Lucy Beaumont (née Crawford). At the time of his enlistment in the NZEF in December 1914 he was working as a bootmaker in Newtown.  He served on Gallipoli with 17th (Ruahine) Company, Wellington Infantry Battalion from 27th May 1915. He suffered a shrapnel wound to the abdomen in late July 1915 and was invalided to the UK. He remained in the UK throughout 1916 before returning to New Zealand in 1917 due to the lingering effects of enteric fever. He was discharged in August of that year.

     

    Beaumont married Mary Ellen Hutchinson in 1922 and had a family of two children. He died 3rd March 1985 at Morrinsville and is buried in Piako Cemetery.

     

    The trio is all correctly named 10/1412 PTE. A.C. BEAUMONT. N.Z.E.F. The lot also comes with Beaumont's original discharge certificate. The other items shown are copies (1975 Gallipoli reunion booklet and photograph). The medals appear to have been laquered.
