Crimea/New Zealand Group to R.A. Officer
The excellent Crimea/New Zealand Wars group of three awarded to Arthur Stewart Hunter of the Royal Artillery, who later became an honorary Major-General.
Arthur Stewart Hunter was born 14th April 1837 and was commissioned into the Royal Artillery as an Ensign on 28 February 1855. He was promoted to Lieutenant on 1 April 1855, serving in this rank during the campaign in the Crimea. Hunter served in New Zealand under Captain Mercer, 3rd Battery, 4th Brigade, Royal Artillery, landing in New Zealand with six Armstrong artillery pieces in March 1861. Following his service in New Zealand, Hunter was promoted to Captain on 19 October 1862, and transferred to India. He appears to have served in India throughout the remainder of his career and into retirement. He was prmoted to Major on 5 July 1872; Lieutenant-Colonel on 1 July 1881; Colonel on 1 July 1886; and Hon. Major-General on 8 December 1886. Hunter married Philippa Meadows Bishop in December 1868 at Madras, India and died in Bengal in October 1917.

Arty.) name partially officially re-impressed; Turkish Crimea 1855, Sardinian issue (Arthur S. Hunter. R.A.) contemporary engraved naming, edge bruising and contact marks, otherwise nearly very fine and rare.
Only 10 medals known to have been issued with this reverse date, this being the only one to an officer and one of only two such medals to the Royal Artillery.
